Qatar 2022
Qatar 2022 is a short form narrative project exploring cultural exchange through sport. Created alongside my professional work, the piece reflects an ongoing interest in using humor and performance to examine identity, belonging, and shared cultural language. Football served as the central medium through which different traditions could intersect naturally and accessibly.
The concept blended Omani and Brazilian cultural references, drawing on Middle Eastern social norms and Brazilian rhythm both on and off the pitch. The project was designed as a light but intentional exploration of cultural fusion at a moment when global attention around football in the region was both heightened and contested.
The skit starred Laith Al Nabhani, an Omani citizen whose performance embodied the project’s emphasis on cultural fluidity and cross cultural exchange. I led all aspects of creative execution, including concept development, creative direction, cinematography, and editing.
The project exceeded expectations in reach, circulating widely within micro influencer communities across Dubai and Oman. It contributed to broader cultural conversation around the 2022 World Cup at a time of heightened scrutiny and debate. The film remains part of an ongoing collaborative series with Laith, with plans to revisit and expand the project in the future.
